Get It Right
If there’s one thing I hate more than mayonnaise, I think it would hafta be really bad English. I don’t mean to say that my English is top notch. But I’m not asking for bombastic English lit on restaurant menus or signs. I just want simple English. Personally for me, I can’t stand it when I’m dealing with a person with broken English, especially in the service industry like hotels or restaurants. And as much as it irks me to read signs like ‘SERVED NO PORK’ in restaurants, I still can’t help but to laugh at it. So are you telling me that you used to serve pork but not anymore? Hurmmm…
I know that to some people, English may be a hard language to master. I’m just lucky that my parents moved to the States when I was barely 4 years old and I came back to Malaysia not knowing a word of Malay. So I was just lucky. And I know how tough it can be at times. Even I tend to make mistakes too.
I think it’s especially important for people in the service industry to have good and proper English. I wouldn’t mind a few grammatical errors but if it’s to the point where miscommunication occurs, then we’ve definitely got ourselves a prob! Here’s a tip for those of you with small businesses… If you’ve got anything like emails, speeches, minutes, memos, or anything that needs translation, you guys should refer to OneHourTranslation to get real-time translation in less than an hour. You’ll be connected to fully trained translators who are highly experienced to give you the best translation service ever. All you gotta do is:
1. Submit your text in any language.
2. Translations starts immediately by translators around the world.
3. Collect your translation.
And that’s it. Easy peasy. So again, for those of you who wants to get your essay or term paper translated, you could also drop by OneHourTranslation.com for more information on their services.
As for those restaurant owners, it’s SERVE not SERVED. Or else you might find yourself being ’served’!

Yeah, I agree. It irks me too when I read signs like ‘No have stock’. People in the service industry should really get their act together at times.

I think the funniest English word in a menu I’ve ever seen was “Chicken Chok”. The chicken probably died of choking before being served to us!
